1. Who we are

OFF-GRID by Ostwald Steele ("OFF-GRID", "we", "our" or "us") supplies and installs 4WD, ute, caravan and marine electrical products, including dual battery, lithium, solar and touring setups, and sells related products through our online store and showroom.

OFF-GRID is a division of Ostwald Steele Electrical Pty Ltd (ABN 79 621 595 373, ACN 621 595 373), which is the entity responsible for handling personal information under this policy.

Ostwald Steele Electrical also operates mining, commercial and residential electrical divisions. Enquiries may be shared between these divisions where needed to answer your request (for example, if your enquiry relates to a home solar or EV charging job rather than a vehicle setup).

  • Phone: 0473 406 758

  • Post / in person: Shed 2, 27–31 Alta Road, Caboolture QLD 4510

  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 8am–4pm

This policy explains how we collect, hold, use and disclose personal information when you visit our website or online store, enquire through Facebook, Instagram or another channel, purchase products, request a quote, book our services, visit our showroom, sign up to our mailing list, or meet us at an expo or event.

2. Information we collect

Depending on how you deal with us, we may collect:

  • your name, email address, phone number, billing address and delivery address;

  • details of your 4WD, ute, caravan, camper trailer, boat or other equipment, such as make, model, year, registration or VIN, existing electrical setup, and the upgrades or services you are interested in;

  • photos of your vehicle or equipment that you send us, or that we take during a quote or installation;

  • enquiry details, quotes, job and appointment information, and communications with our team;

  • products ordered, transaction amounts, order status, and related payment, refund, return and warranty records;

  • information you provide through Meta (Facebook and Instagram) lead forms, messages, email, phone calls or website forms;

  • your mailing list subscription and marketing preferences;

  • information you give us at expos, events or in our showroom (for example, entries, vouchers or promotional offers); and

  • technical information such as device and browser details, IP address, pages viewed and cookie or advertising identifiers, where our website uses those tools.

Payment information: Online payments are processed securely by Stripe through our Wix online store, and in-person card payments are processed by Square. We do not see or store your full card number. We will never ask for full card details through Meta forms, social media messages or email.

Dealing with us anonymously: You can browse our website and ask general questions without identifying yourself. We will need your name and contact details to provide a quote, book work, process an order or handle a warranty claim.

Sensitive information: We do not need, and do not ask for, sensitive information (such as health information) to provide our products and services.

3. How we collect information

We collect information directly from you when you contact us, submit an enquiry or Meta lead form, request a quote, book work, place an order online or in our showroom, sign up to our mailing list, or talk with our team at an expo or event.

We may also receive information from the platforms and service providers you use to deal with us, including Facebook, Instagram and our website and online-store platform, and through website analytics and advertising tools where these are enabled.

If you give us information about another person (for example, a family member's vehicle), please make sure they are happy for you to do so.

If we receive personal information we did not ask for and do not need, we will destroy or de-identify it where lawful and reasonable to do so.

4. Why we use information

We use personal information where reasonably necessary to:

  • respond to questions and provide product or service information;

  • assess enquiries, prepare quotes, and arrange workshop bookings or installations;

  • process, fulfil, deliver and manage purchases, payments, refunds and returns;

  • provide customer support, warranty assistance and after-sales service, including lodging warranty claims with the relevant manufacturer;

  • maintain business records and meet legal, tax and accounting obligations;

  • improve our website, products, services and customer experience;

  • measure and improve our advertising;

  • protect our systems, prevent misuse and manage business risks; and

  • send news, offers, product drops and setup tips where you have subscribed or we are otherwise permitted by law.

Submitting a quote enquiry does not, by itself, sign you up to our promotional emails or messages.

Photos of builds: We may ask to use photos of your completed setup on our website or social media. We will only publish photos that identify you or your vehicle registration with your permission, and we will remove them on request.

5. Who we share information with

We may disclose personal information, where needed for the purposes above, to:

  • our employees and authorised personnel who handle enquiries, orders, bookings and installations, including staff in other Ostwald Steele Electrical divisions where relevant to your request;

  • our website, online-store, forms and mailing-list platform (Wix);

  • our payment processors (Stripe for online payments and Square for in-person payments);

  • our job-management software (Tradify and SprintSuite), accounting software (Xero) and email and office software (Microsoft 365 / Outlook);

  • Meta, where you use Facebook or Instagram lead forms, messaging or advertising features, and through the Meta Pixel on our website;

  • Google, through Google Analytics on our website;

  • payment processors, couriers and delivery companies, and the manufacturers and suppliers of products we sell (for example, for warranty claims or direct dispatch);

  • professional advisers, auditors and insurers where reasonably necessary; and

  • regulators, courts, authorities or other parties where required or permitted by law.

We do not sell or rent customer contact lists to third parties.

When you use Facebook, Instagram or another external platform, that platform's own privacy terms also apply.

6. Overseas handling of information

Some of our service providers store or process information outside Australia. Based on the providers we use, personal information is likely to be stored or accessed in:

  • the United States (including Wix, Meta, Google, Microsoft, Stripe, Square, Tradify and our accounting provider);

  • Ireland and other European countries (Meta and Wix);

  • Israel (Wix); and

  • South Korea and Taiwan (Wix data centres).

Other providers, including our job-management software, may store information in Australia or in other countries where their systems are hosted.

We take reasonable steps to choose reputable providers and to protect personal information shared with them.

7. Cookies, analytics and advertising

Our website and online store run on Wix, which uses cookies and similar technologies to operate the site, keep your cart working, remember settings and provide visitor analytics. We also use the Meta Pixel to measure and improve our Facebook and Instagram advertising, and Google Analytics (through a Google tag) to understand how visitors use our website.

You can manage or block cookies through your browser settings. You can also control the ads you see from Meta through your Facebook or Instagram ad preferences, and opt out of Google Analytics using Google's browser opt-out add-on (https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout). Blocking some cookies may affect how the site works, including the cart and checkout.

8. Automated decision-making

We do not use automated decision-making to make decisions about you that significantly affect your rights or interests. Decisions about quotes, bookings, orders and warranty claims are made by our team. Our payment providers may run their own automated fraud and security checks when you pay, under their own privacy terms. If we begin using automated decision-making in a way that significantly affects you, we will update this policy.

9. Marketing choices

If you join the OFF-GRID mailing list, we will send you product drops, setup tips and offers. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, or you can opt out at any time by emailing offgrid@ostwaldsteele.com. We will action unsubscribe requests within 5 business days.

We will still send service messages needed to respond to your request or manage an order, booking or warranty claim.

10. Security and retention

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These include password-protected business systems, limiting access to staff and providers who need the information, and using providers with appropriate security standards.

We keep information for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes in this policy or to meet legal obligations — for example, tax and business records are generally kept for at least five years. When information is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it.

No internet transmission or storage system is completely secure. If a data breach is likely to result in serious harm to you, we will respond in line with our legal obligations, which may include notifying you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

11. Accessing or correcting your information

You can ask what personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct information that is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date.

Email offgrid@ostwaldsteele.com with your request. We may need to verify your identity first. We aim to respond within 30 days. If we refuse a request, we will tell you why, where appropriate, and how to complain.

12. Privacy concerns and complaints

If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, contact us at offgrid@ostwaldsteele.com or 0473 406 758 and describe the issue.

We will acknowledge your complaint and aim to respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may be able to contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at https://www.oaic.gov.au/ or on 1300 363 992.

13. Updates to this policy

We may update this policy when our services, systems or information-handling practices change. The current version will always be available on our website with its last-updated date.
